Thank you so much for the message Chris, and it`s a pleasure for me to share it :)
"To My Heartland friends,
It has come to my attention that many of you enjoyed last weeks episode of Heartland.
Thank you for your positive comments. I was happy when I was informed how well the ep. was received.
I must explain that while I may not actively participate on line, I do occasionally read your comments on the Heartland web site.
I have always felt that the true value of social media, as it relates to a TV show site like the Heartland website, should never be about self promotion. It should be about you, used by you, the loyal fans and friends to connect. To get to know each other through your shared interest in the series.
Heartland may end someday [Season 25?} but some of you will have made lifelong connections. I find the thought of that rewarding as a performer/director.
To this day I have people approach me to say that 20yrs ago they watched one of my shows with their Mom or Dad and that those were fond memories.
Well, those memories are being created today with the show we all love. Heartland. That is a very satisfying result of the hard work that goes into making it by the cast and crew.
Thank you all so much.
Incidentally.
The story behind the song that so many people have inquired about at the end of last weeks episode #613, is called New Constellations.
It was performed by Suzy Wilde and her band Flashlight Radio. Suzy is now a solo artist with a new album.
I tend to gather imprints like, sounds, locations, landscapes throughout the year, that influence my work as a director and sometimes as an actor.
Songs, by unsigned artists, for potential use in the episodes I direct, I collect as well. I've used close to 20 now.
Suzy's story is unique. A touch of kismit.
Mackenzie Donaldson, the daughter of actress Sheila McCarthy and actor, the late, Peter Donaldson, had mentioned to me that when she is not working at her day job, on the new TV series Orchid Black, as assistant to Director/Producer John Fawcett [one of our fave Heartland directors], she helps manage a girlfriends music career. I suggested she send me a couple of tracks after quickly describing the tone I look for.
The first song I listened to was New Constellations. After reading the first draft of Ep 613, that song, was stuck in my head as a template for the tone of the entire episode.
It influenced my rhythm and pace from the opening teaser while I was shooting each day.
Of course... that was without knowing whether the producers or music editor would feel the same way.
These are the common risks involved with the Directors choices.
But it worked. We all loved it....and apparently you did too.
To this day I still haven't met Suzy Wilde.
Thought you might be interested,
Many thanks to Val for posting

And one more note from Flashlight Radio: "If anybody wants a copy of our CD send us a message and we can arrange to mail them to you!"
