Michael Sloan is the president of this year`s jury at the Monte Carlo Film Festival. On June 9th an interview with him was published. One question was what production he is most proud of. Here is his answer:
Sloan: “I loved writing and producing Kung
Fu: The Legend Continues with the late
David Carradine. It was a challenging show,
to mix the metaphysical and spiritual
elements of the Kwai Chang Caine
character with the dramatic and thriller
elements of a cop show.
There was some fantasy in the show,
contrasted with gritty reality. The scripts
were very diversified and had a lot of
action, humor and evocative themes in
them. Some of them were love letters to
great movies like The Magnificent Seven,
The Great Escape Key Largo, all within the
Kung Fu dramatic guidelines.
David Carradine was great to work with, as
was Chris Potter, who played his cop son in
the show. I was able to create 50 + auxiliary
characters around the two main leads,
who ran through the entire series, which
gave the show a sense of reality. The series
created a large and very loyal fan base and
some of the more uplifting ideas in the
series resonated with a great many people.”
