"Over the past few weeks lots of different folks have been stepping up to support High River flood relief.
Mayor Emile Blokland says he has been fortunate to be able to attend a few different fundraising events over the past few weeks.
One, he says, was put on by the people from the television series, Heartland.
Blokland says on July 20th, Heartland had a special event at their set in Calgary where they sold tickets for $25 each for 1000 people.
He explains that people were able to tour the set, Tom Jackson was on had to play a few songs and there was live music and entertainment for the kids, as well as a live auction.
Blokland says it was a great afternoon and $65,000 was raised for the town.
Later that evening, he says, he was invited to a private party where 3 people were celebrating their 50th birthdays and turned it into a barn dance for 150 of the friends who together raised another $40,000 for the town.
"Both of these events raised large amounts", says Blokland, "but you know, the story of the 2 little girls north of Edmonton who collected the $160 from their lemonade stand and brought it down to High River because their grandpa lived here is just as heart warming."
An account for the High River Disaster Relief Fund has been set up and contributions can be made at any RBC Branch."
