Heartland is nominated twice for the Writer`s Guild of Canada Sreenwriting Awards this year. Leila Basen ("Life is a Highway") and Heather Conkie ("Breaking down and building up") got nominated in the same category "TV Drama". In my opinion they just should make that two awards for two amazingly talented writers ;)

Here you can read the complete list: http://www.wgc.ca/cscs_awards/current_awards.html

Fingers crossed for Aoril 22nd :)

Today I have some sad News to share. A fellow fan informed me that "Kung Fu - The Legend Continues" fight coordinator and stunt choreographer Mike Vendrell passed away on February 17th 2013.

My thoughts are with his family and friends.

You can find an interview with Mike Vendrell about his work on KFTLC here:

Article about "The Hunt" director Spencer Estabrooks in the Calgary Herald today :)

"Shot in Calgary in November, The Hunt features Chris Potter of Heartland fame. He plays a gruff and mustachioed father attempting to entice his bookish son — played by Rohan Campbell — into the manly world of hunting. Without giving too much away, the two suddenly find themselves prey to Leech and Busey, not that they are really on a first-name basis with the creatures."

Some more comments about the World Premiere in Glasgow:

"Between features, Canadian director Spencer Estabrooks appeared to introduce his new short film The Hunt, a seven-minute effort about a hunting trip which goes horribly awry. Eccentric and accomplished, it packed an impressive atmosphere of mounting dread into its super-compact runtime, and was a deserved hit with the audience." (http://www.dailydischord.com/glasgow-frightfest-2013/)

"There was a sneaky bonus before the screening of Sawney with the world premiere of Spencer Estabrook’s short The Hunt (●●●●), a nicely comedic concise monster movie that begs the question who’s hunting who?" (http://film.list.co.uk/article/49205-sawney-flesh-of-man/)

Rounding up (not literally) Friday’s guests was 'Canadian' director Mr. Spencer Estabrooks who scarily had flown over at his own expense to unveil his latest short entitled The Hunt... Following on from the aforementioned The Hunt (love to see a feature spun out of this, I'm available to script duties Mr. Estabrooks)..." (http://networkedblogs.com/II4ph)

Calgary Herald: "Alberta-made family TV stalwart Heartland..."

Article in the Calgary Herald yesterday about Heartland`s 100th episode:

"As Jordy Randall remembers it, filming the pilot episode of CBC’s Alberta-shot Heartland back in November 2006 was not particularly pleasant.

While it may be romantic to imagine the experience as warm and agreeable, foreshadowing the series’ long future as a CBC mainstay for warm and agreeable family viewing, in reality it was one of those tough, gruelling shoots that Alberta’s rugged crews excel at."
