Heartland and "The Horse With No Name"

Calgary Herald: Real-life flood drama hits Alberta-shot TV and film productions

...The devastation of that town will also have a long-term impact on the CBC family series Heartland, which is currently 30 days into shooting its seventh season. While much of the show is shot in Millarville and at the Currie Barracks in Calgary, producers use High River as a stand-in for the fictional town of Hudson. Portions of the show are also shot at a backlot in Bragg Creek, which also suffered damage, said executive producer Jordy Randall of Calgary’s Seven24 Films. But High River is the site for Maggie’s Diner, a set that often plays into Heartland storylines. It was swamped with flood water along with the rest of the town.

“It’s a very regular and central kind of location because it’s our only set in a town setting where people are meeting,” said Randall, adding that the production also uses High River’s streets and storefronts for shooting. “It’s really the centre of the activity from a town perspective. We had scripts written that we were about to start shooting that took place there. So step one is to rewrite some of those stories so those things happen elsewhere”

Production has not stopped on Heartland. Cameras started rolling again Monday in Calgary, Randall said.

Future production troubles obviously pale in comparison to what High River residents are facing themselves, Randall says. He said cast and crew are distraught over the disaster that has hit a town and plan on holding fundraisers for it.

“It’s become our home,” he said. “The face of Heartland continues to be High River and High River has embraced us as part of its tourism platform. That is our home in the show. To see what they are going through out there is just heart-wrenching.”...

"So then, if you're at all in the Calgary area on SATURDAY, JULY 20, try and come down to the studio set in Calgary where you can meet the cast and crew, tour the sets, pet the horses, take photographs of the vehicles, have fun, enjoy live music and maybe win a walk-on role. Full details will released in the near future, but this much will not change -

The Heartlanders for High River Fundraiser,
Saturday, July 20 from 11:00am - 3:00pm
at the Heartland Calgary Studio.

Production is looking for as many people as possible to show up, and will be asking for a minimum $25.00 donation from each person coming out. All donations collected will be contributed entirely to a still-to-be-determined High River charity."

"Rocket`s Red Glare" DVD & Trailer

Some time ago I was asked about the release of "Rocket`s Red Glare". As far as I know the movie is still only available in Greece and Russia (and maybe Japan).

A fellow fan ordered it now at a Greek DVD Shop which is selling via amazon.co.uk and it worked out pretty well. Thanks Kirsten for letting me know :)

Heartland Season 7 Production Week #8

After a well-deserved one week hiatus, Cast and Crew were back on set this week:

"Stunts being performed today; a forward fender, a hippodrome, a fender drag and a fishtail. (No horse involved for the last one) :D"

"Chris Potter is not filming as Tim today, but he is in prep at the production office as he will be directing 707 and 708."

"For those keeping count, episodes 705 and 706 are the 108th and 109th episodes of the Heartland saga. Wow!"

"Nothing but outdoor filming for the rest of the week. Also, hot and sunny forecasts to match. What a nice combination! :)"

"Today's 5 scenes are from 706, including this one with Tim. Chris is here, taking time off from prepping the next block, which he directs."

"Yes indeed, no female performers are on set today, but don't think for a moment that everyone is cursing like drunken sailors. :D"
